Coalition Demands Edo Governor Okpebholo's Resignation

The Coalition for the Restoration of the People’s Party (CRPP) has called for the resignation of Edo State Governor Mondai Okpebholo, citing his alleged failure to address the rising economic hardship in the state. Protests occurred in Benin on Tuesday and Wednesday, where demonstrators barricaded sections of the Benin-Lagos Expressway near the University of Benin's Ugbowo Campus, disrupting vehicular movement for several hours.

The protests were fueled by grievances over high food prices, unemployment, and the overall cost of living, which citizens described as disconnected from political promises. Dr. Samson Isibor, the chairman of the coalition, expressed deep concern over the governor's lack of visible efforts to alleviate the suffering of the people, stating that Edo State is facing severe poverty and insecurity.

The coalition urged Okpebholo to either take immediate action to address these issues or resign, accusing him of being bereft of ideas to solve the alarming poverty confronting the citizens.
