Hausa Influence Key in Abuja Council Election Results

Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, commented on the outcomes of the Abuja Municipal Area Council elections held in the Federal Capital Territory. The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Christoph Maikalangu of the All Progressives Congress as the winner, securing 40,295 votes, while his closest challenger, Paul Ogidi of the African Democratic Congress, received 12,109 votes.

Ahmad argued that the electoral outcome in the FCT cannot be properly understood without considering the influence of the Hausa community, which he described as a significant political force. He stated that any serious electoral calculations must engage with the Hausa voting bloc, as neglecting this community could lead to political miscalculations.

Ahmad's remarks highlight the ongoing importance of ethnic voting patterns in Nigeria's capital, suggesting that political strategies must build trust within these communities to be successful.
