Dani Olmo, a midfielder for Spain, has publicly responded to Roberto Ayala, the assistant coach for Argentina, following an altercation during the 2026 World Cup final. Ayala claimed he only shoved Olmo, but Olmo stated that Ayala punched him in the neck.

In an interview with Diari de Terrassa, Olmo accused Ayala of dishonesty, emphasizing that an apology is meaningless if one does not admit their mistakes. He remarked, “An individual who claims to be sorry but justifies a punch as a reaction to a comment is certainly not sincere in their apology.” Olmo clarified that he did not provoke Ayala, thus negating the need for an apology.
