Onanuga Critiques Atiku's 2027 Presidential Ambitions

Segun Onanuga, a special adviser to President Bola Tinubu, has publicly criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar regarding his intentions to run for the presidency in 2027. Onanuga argues that Atiku is pursuing self-serving interests without consideration for Nigeria's power rotation arrangement, which favors a southern candidate for the presidency in 2027.

He highlights Atiku's consistent disregard for this zoning arrangement, which has previously led to crises within the People's Democratic Party (PDP). Following Atiku's declaration to contest, Onanuga predicts that he will face a resounding defeat in the polls.

He emphasizes that the southern region has governed Nigeria for 18 years, while the northern region has done so for only 10 years. Onanuga describes Atiku's political calculations as dubious and points out that the zoning arrangement should allow Bola Tinubu to complete his eight-year term without northern candidates contesting again.
