Health Workers Warn of Strike Over Salary Adjustments

The Joint Health Sector Union, led by Kabiru Minjibir, has issued a warning about a possible strike due to the federal government's failure to implement a long-awaited adjustment to the consolidated health salary structure. This concern was raised during an interview at the 114th International Labour Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.
Minjibir highlighted that unresolved salary adjustments have been a major issue for health workers for decades, despite numerous engagements with the government. The salary structure was introduced in 2016, and since then, there have been three reviews that have not been implemented for health workers.
Last year, the union embarked on an industrial action that lasted 84 days, affecting federal health institutions across the country. A memorandum of understanding was signed to implement the salary adjustment by the end of April 2026, but the issue remains unresolved.
Minjibir emphasized the need for the government to address worker remuneration to ensure productivity in the health sector.
