NAPTIP Engages Ogun Communities to Combat Human Trafficking

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) called on residents of border communities in Ogun State to assist in the fight against human trafficking and violence against persons. This appeal was made by Ogun State Commander Bose Jimoh during a two-day town hall meeting held on Friday in Idiroko, Ipokia Local Government Area.

The meeting, organized in collaboration with the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), aimed to equip community members with information to identify and report suspected trafficking cases. Jimoh highlighted that victims are often recruited from local communities for exploitation, stressing the importance of vigilance as traffickers adopt new methods.

Samuel Okoroji, Project Officer of ICMPD, noted that Idiroko was selected due to its vulnerability as a border corridor. The initiative, funded by the Kingdom of the Netherlands, includes capacity building for stakeholders to recognize trafficking red flags and report them promptly.
