NAPTIP Rescues 258 Human Trafficking Victims in Jigawa

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Jigawa State Command, announced the rescue of 258 victims of human trafficking and their reunion with families. Additionally, 512 stranded Jigawa indigenes were returned from abroad over the past 18 months.

This announcement coincided with the 2026 World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, which aims to expose trafficking scams and protect vulnerable individuals. State Commander Abdulkadir Turajo highlighted that Jigawa is a significant source and transit route for traffickers targeting Europe and the Middle East.

Since the command's establishment in July 2023, it has recorded 78 trafficking cases, secured two convictions, and conducted over 150 awareness programs across the state. Turajo warned against traffickers using fake job advertisements and urged the public not to harbor traffickers or conceal victims.

The command also initiated anti-trafficking vanguards in schools to address the issue at the community level.
