Fire Outbreak at Kwara Supermarket Caused by Power Line

A fire outbreak occurred at a supermarket located along Lubcon Road in the Mandate Area of Ilorin, Kwara State, on Sunday, June 14, 2026. The incident, confirmed by Hassan Adekunle of the Kwara State Fire Service, was reported shortly after 3:08 AM.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the fire was sparked by a high-tension transmission line situated directly above the supermarket. A spark from the line reportedly fell onto nearby combustible materials, igniting the blaze.

Firefighters arrived promptly and successfully contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to adjacent businesses. Alabi Muham, the director of the Kwara State Fire Service, warned residents and business owners against erecting structures beneath high-tension power lines, emphasizing the serious fire safety hazards they pose.

The agency reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and properties through prompt emergency responses and public education on fire prevention measures.
