Kwara Declares Public Holiday for Islamic New Year

The Kwara State Government has announced that Tuesday will be a public holiday in observance of the first day of Muharram, marking the start of the Islamic lunar calendar. This declaration was made in a statement issued on Monday by Bolanle Olukoju, the Commissioner for Communications.

The governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, called on Muslim residents to reflect on the deeper meaning of Hijrah, emphasizing lessons of tolerance, unity, and respect for individual aspirations. He highlighted the significance of the occasion as a moment for spiritual renewal and collective commitment to peacebuilding across the state.

Abdulrazaq also prayed for divine blessings for families in the state and urged residents to remain committed to fostering harmony within their communities as the new Islamic year begins.
