Nigerian States Declare Public Holiday for Islamic New Year

On Tuesday, June 16, 2026, multiple state governors across Nigeria declared a public holiday to mark the commencement of the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1448AH. Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde announced the holiday, urging residents to pray for peace and unity.
