US Congressman Calls for Release of Nnamdi Kanu

Kingsley Kanunta Kanu, the younger brother of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), expressed support for a motion introduced by US Congressman John James. In a viral video, Congressman James urged his colleagues in the US Congress to back his bill demanding the immediate and unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu.

Kanunta Kanu praised this initiative, comparing his brother to Nelson Mandela, stating that only two figures have been debated in the US Congress: Mandela and Nnamdi Kanu. He thanked Congressman John James for his bold stance against what he termed an injustice.

Nnamdi Kanu was sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted on terrorism-related charges on November 20, 2025.
