US Congressman Calls for Nnamdi Kanu's Immediate Release

On Thursday, US Congressman John James introduced a motion in the US Congress advocating for the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). James asserted that Nigeria is the most dangerous place for Christians, urging the Nigerian government to conduct a new trial for Kanu that adheres to its constitution, ensuring access to legal counsel, medical care, and compliance with international law regarding humane detention conditions.

He claimed that since 2019, numerous Christians in Nigeria have been victims of religiously motivated violence by Islamist Jihadists, which he alleged has been overlooked or enabled by the Nigerian authorities. James accused the Nigerian government of allowing extremist groups like Boko Haram to operate without significant intervention.

He further alleged that Kanu was wrongfully convicted in a show trial for voicing concerns about the situation in Nigeria and is currently serving a life sentence on false terrorism charges. James urged his colleagues to support his bill, emphasizing that the US should not continue funding what he termed "Christian genocide.".
