Home Teams Shine on NPFL Season Opening Day

On the opening day of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), home teams had a strong performance despite some challenges. Defending champions Enugu Rangers managed a 1-1 draw against Katsina United.

Kwara United fought back to secure a 2-2 draw against Kano Pillars, with veteran Rabiu ‘Pele’ Ali scoring for Pillars, while Alex Jerry netted twice for Kwara. Ikorodu City overcame an early goal from Ranchers Bees to win 3-1, with Umar Dan’azumi and Abayomi Ayodeji scoring in the first half, followed by a penalty from Farouk Salami.

Doma United won 2-0 against Sporting Lagos, and Bendel Insurance triumphed 2-1 over Warri Wolves. Barau United also had a solid performance, winning 3-1 against Nasarawa United.

Last season's runners-up, Rivers United, defeated Plateau United 2-0. The match between Abia Warriors and Kun Khalifat was postponed due to rain, with the remaining 17 minutes to be played the following morning.
