Hoodlums Disrupt Voting at Abaji Polling Unit

On Saturday, during the 2026 Abaji Area Council elections, hoodlums disrupted the voting process at the Abaji polling unit by snatching two bundles of ballot papers, each containing 100 papers, of which 27 had already been used. The incident occurred shortly after voting commenced at 9 AM, leading to a temporary halt in the electoral exercise.

Musa Ibrahim, the assistant presiding officer, reported that the attackers invaded the polling unit and made away with the ballot papers. Despite efforts to restore calm and resume voting, disagreements among party agents regarding the missing ballot papers stalled the process.

Musa Bashir, a witness, noted that the incident occurred amid tensions among party agents, and there were suggestions that the attack aimed to frustrate the electoral support for the council chairman. Voters were seen sitting on the floor and standing around the polling area, waiting for a possible resumption of the voting process.
