HortiNigeria Secures ₦500m Boost for Tomato Farmers, Reducing Post-Harvest Losses

HortiNigeria, with support from various organizations, has secured a 75% credit risk guarantee for tomato farmers in Nigeria, unlocking a ₦500 million special intervention fund. This initiative, approved by the federal government, aims to strengthen the supply chain, enable farmers to access financing, and reduce post-harvest losses in the tomato value chain.

Plastic crates are being introduced to replace traditional raffia baskets, significantly improving the efficiency of transporting tomatoes from northern states to southern markets. The collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture is part of broader efforts to modernize Nigeria's horticulture sector and promote sustainable agricultural practices.
