House of Reps Commends Police for Fuel Stability Efforts

The House of Representatives praised the Nigeria Police Force for its role in protecting pipelines and ensuring fuel stability nationwide during a visit to the police headquarters in Abuja on Thursday. Hon.

Barr. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), highlighted the police's strategic security operations that have significantly reduced vandalism and theft in the petroleum sector.

Ugochinyere emphasized the importance of law enforcement in maintaining a functional fuel distribution market and noted the police's proactive engagement with communities to mitigate tensions and prevent disruptions. The committee proposed the establishment of a dedicated police desk for downstream security to enhance coordination and eliminate illegal market activities.

IGP Kayode Egbetokun reaffirmed the significance of Nigeria's downstream oil assets and called for stronger legislative support to bolster protection efforts. The visit culminated in a ceremony where the police were awarded for their exceptional service in safeguarding the nation's energy future.
