Reps Committee Pushes for More Funding for Nigeria Police

The House of Representatives committee has called for increased funding for the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to bolster security, particularly in the oil and gas sector. During a visit to the NPF headquarters in Abuja led by Chairman Kayode Egbetokun, the committee emphasized the importance of securing downstream petroleum infrastructure across the country.

Egbetokun noted that the police are a reliable backbone for the downstream sector, highlighting their strategic deployment along pipeline corridors, which has significantly reduced vandalism and product diversion. Ugochinyer, another committee member, urged for intensified intelligence-led patrols and rapid response to disruptions caused by illegal refining activities.

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, expressed appreciation for the committee's recognition and pledged to enhance surveillance and intelligence sharing. The committee also called for strengthening the legal framework to secure funding and improve personnel training to protect the downstream sector's infrastructure.
