House of Reps pass bill to increase Lagos local governments from 20 to 57

The House of Representatives has passed a bill to increase the number of local governments in Lagos from 20 to 57. The legislation, titled "A Bill for an Act to Alter the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, to Accommodate 37 Development Area Councils in Lagos State Local Government Areas," was signed into law after being approved by the lower chamber.

The bill, which was sponsored by lawmakers such as James Abiodun Faleke, Babajimi Benson, and Enitan Dolapo Badru, aims to amend the constitution to recognize the additional local government areas in Lagos. If implemented, this change would make Lagos state the highest in the country in terms of the number of local government areas, surpassing Kano and Katsina.
