15 NYSC Members Rescued from Kidnappers in Kogi

The Kogi State Police Command reported the successful rescue of 15 National Youth Service Corps members and six other individuals from kidnappers in Egume Forest, Ofu Local Government Area. Commissioner of Police Naziru Kankarofi announced the operation on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief.

Following an alert, security forces, including military, police, Department of State Services operatives, local vigilantes, and hunters, initiated a search-and-rescue operation. The operation began on Sunday and intensified after narrowing down the kidnappers' location.

A gun battle ensued on Monday afternoon, resulting in the rescue of the victims. Two individuals sustained gunshot injuries during the exchange.

The corps members were attacked while traveling from Bayelsa along the Itobe-Ajaokuta Highway. Four suspected kidnappers were killed, and others escaped with injuries.

Security forces remain in the area to track the fleeing suspects, coordinating with Enugu State police to block escape routes.
