DSS Investigates El’Rufai in Dadiyata Kidnap Case

The Department of State Services (DSS) has reopened the cold case of the 2019 kidnapping of Abubakar Idris, also known as Dadiyata, a prominent critic of former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El’Rufai. This investigation has resulted in the seizure of El’Rufai's passport at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja as he attempted to leave for Egypt after a brief visit to Nigeria.

El’Rufai is reportedly aware of the ongoing investigation and had planned to meet with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) following his return. Dadiyata was abducted from his home on August 1, 2019, and his whereabouts remain unknown.

El’Rufai has publicly denied any knowledge of Dadiyata prior to his disappearance, despite claims from a police officer that El’Rufai was involved in the kidnapping. The case has attracted significant international attention, with human rights organizations like Amnesty International involved.
