DSS Seizes El’Rufai's Passport in Dadiyata Kidnap Probe

The Department of State Services (DSS) has reopened the investigation into the 2019 kidnapping of Abubakar Idris, known as Dadiyata, a prominent critic of former Kaduna Governor Mallam Nasir El’Rufai. The investigation has resulted in the seizure of El’Rufai's passport at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja as he attempted to flee to Egypt after a brief visit to Nigeria.

El’Rufai is reportedly aware of the ongoing investigation and had planned to meet with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) before his passport was confiscated. Dadiyata was abducted from his home on August 1, 2019, and his whereabouts remain unknown.

El’Rufai has denied knowledge of Dadiyata prior to his disappearance, despite allegations from a police officer that he was involved in the kidnapping. The case has drawn significant international attention, with human rights organizations like Amnesty International involved.
