EFCC Operatives Arrest Professor and Staff at UUTH

On Tuesday, EFCC operatives invaded the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH), arresting Professor Eyo Ekp, a cardiothoracic surgeon, along with four staff members without prior notification or a warrant. Professor Ememabasi Bassei, the Chief Medical Director of UUTH, provided a detailed account of the incident during a press conference in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

He expressed concerns about the presence of fake medical reports allegedly produced within the hospital, which he claimed were being used by external parties. Bassei emphasized that the hospital serves millions of citizens and cannot afford to remain shut down, as it has a capacity of 600 to 800 patients.

He stated that the EFCC's actions could trigger an indefinite strike by medical staff. Bassei also denied receiving a letter from the EFCC dated March 11, 2026, claiming it never reached his office.

He reiterated the hospital's commitment to cooperating with security agencies while condemning the actions of a few operatives that led to this unfortunate situation.
