EFCC Operatives Assault UUTH Doctor, Arrest Staff

Prof. Eyo Ekp, a cardiothoracic surgeon and deputy chairman of the medical advisory committee at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH), reported an incident involving Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) operatives who allegedly assaulted hospital staff and attempted to arrest him. During a press conference, Ekp recounted that he had just resumed work on May 11, 2026, after receiving official approval to travel outside Akwa Ibom State.

He was handling a request from the EFCC regarding a medical report, which he confirmed was fake and not from the hospital. When EFCC operatives arrived, they allegedly refused to allow him to wait for staff members and began dragging him from his office, leading to panic among hospital workers.

Four hospital workers were arrested without prior notice, and Prof. Ememabasi Bassei, the chief medical director, confirmed the incident, stating that the EFCC's actions caused chaos and fear among the staff.
