Timipre Sylva Resigns from APC Amid EFCC Summons

Timipre Sylva's political career within the All Progressives Congress (APC) spans over a decade, transitioning from a former governor of Bayelsa State with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to a key financier of the APC. His political trajectory shifted dramatically following his resignation from the APC on August 31, 2026, coinciding with a renewed summons from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding an alleged $14.86 million fraud.

Sylva served as governor of Bayelsa State from 2007 to 2012 before losing the PDP governorship ticket for a second term. He later became the APC's candidate in the 2015 election but was defeated by the incumbent Seriake Dickson.

Sylva's influence grew within the APC, with Dennis Otiotio, the then APC chairman in Bayelsa, acknowledging him as a major financial supporter. Sylva also sought the APC presidential nomination while serving as Minister of State for Petroleum Resources under former President Muhammadu Buhari before resigning in March 2023 to pursue the Bayelsa governorship.
