Timipre Sylva Resigns from APC Amid Legal Troubles

Timipre Sylva, a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former governor, announced his resignation from the party on August 31, 2026. In his resignation letter addressed to the APC ward chairman in Ward 4, Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Sylva expressed that he could no longer remain in a party that he believes operates under a "anything goes" mentality.

He described the current administration's actions as indicative of a "floundering ship" burdened by "irredeemable load of iniquities." Sylva's decision followed consultations with family and associates, and he urged Nigerians to vote out the ruling party in the 2027 elections. He also sent a copy of his resignation to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), accusing it of acting as an arm of the APC.

Sylva's resignation comes amid serious legal issues, including a November 2025 indictment related to an alleged conspiracy involving the dishonest conversion of $14,859,257, making him a prominent figure in ongoing legal challenges against President Bola Tinubu's administration.
