Sylva Resigns from APC, Criticizes Tinubu's Administration

Chief Timipre Sylva, who served as the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and was the Governor of Bayelsa State, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a resignation letter dated August 31, 2026, Sylva criticized the administration of President Bola Tinubu, stating it has disappointed the majority of Nigerians.

He expressed his belief that the electorate would seek change in the upcoming 2027 general elections. Sylva, a founding member of the APC, stated that he could no longer remain in a party whose leaders have adopted a philosophy of “all is fair in politics.” He lamented the departure from the party's original ideals, which he helped build with significant effort and resources.

Sylva described the current APC-led government as a “floundering ship” and indicated that he was prepared for any scrutiny from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, to whom he copied his resignation letter.
