Odigie-Oyegun Details Assassination Attempt in Edo State

John Odigie-Oyegun, the former governor of Edo State and a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), reported an assassination attempt that occurred shortly before a scheduled meeting at the party's secretariat. The attack took place on Ogbelaka Street off Sokponba Road in Benin City, where gunmen fired several shots, vandalizing party property and injuring some members.

Odigie-Oyegun, along with ADC leader Peter Obi and former Nigerian Bar Association president Olumide Akpata, narrowly escaped the attack. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the assailants continued to fire gunshots as they approached Odigie-Oyegun's residence, where vehicles were found riddled with bullets.

The former governor expressed dissatisfaction with the security response to the attack, which he described as alarming, and he highlighted the need for improved security measures for political figures in the region.
