ISWAP Attack Claims Life of Brig.-Gen. O.O. Braimoh in Borno

Braimoh was killed during a deadly attack by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on a military base in Kaga Local Government Area, Borno State, on Wednesday night. Military sources reported that the attack involved heavy gunfire and explosions, lasting several hours and resulting in an unspecified number of soldiers dead, alongside several others injured or missing.

Brig.-Gen. Braimoh attempted to escape the assault using a bulletproof armored vehicle, which reportedly failed to start due to mechanical issues.

Allegations of negligence and corruption among senior military officers were cited as contributing factors to the situation, including mismanagement of funds for vehicle maintenance and fuel. The attack is part of a broader trend of intensified operations by ISWAP and Boko Haram in Nigeria's northeast region, particularly around the Lake Chad basin, despite claims from the Nigerian military of having largely degraded the insurgents.
