Deadly Clash in Lagos: Oto Awori and Ijanikin Violence

A violent clash occurred in Lagos between residents of Oto Awori and Ijanikin, beginning around 2 AM on Saturday, resulting in the death of Akinyemi Omo Akin, a student at Lagos State University, and injuries to at least seven others. The violence disrupted traffic along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, with youth from Oto Awori allegedly blocking roads.

Simpli Adedeji, a community leader from Oto Awori, reported that the crisis stemmed from repeated attacks by hoodlums from Ijanikin, which began in January. These attacks included looting and sexual assault allegations.

Despite efforts to maintain peace, the situation escalated, leading to a night-time invasion where shops were destroyed and looted. During the clash, gunfire and tear gas were reported, with a pregnant woman reportedly shot.

Sanni Oluwasegun, a youth leader from Ijanikin, denied allegations against his community, asserting that the violence was initiated by Oto Awori residents. The Lagos State Police Command, represented by Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed arrests and ongoing investigations.
