Police Restore Calm in Lagos After Otto-Ijanikin Clash

On Saturday morning, the Lagos State Police Command intervened in a violent communal clash in Otto-Ijanikin, which had obstructed traffic on the Badagry Expressway for several hours. The clash involved youth from the Ijanikin and Otto communities.

Police Commissioner Olohundar Jimoh led a joint team to clear road blockages and restore normalcy by 9 AM. During the violence, a resident identified as Akinyemi Omo Akin was reportedly shot and later died in the hospital.

The police have ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident, assigning the case to the Deputy Commissioner of Police in the State Criminal Investigation Department. Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased was not killed by police gunfire.

SP Abimbola Adebisi confirmed the arrest of seven suspects from rival groups, who are currently in custody and have provided voluntary statements regarding their roles in the clash. The police have intensified operations to track down fleeing suspects and have warned against actions that threaten peace and security.
