Nigerians Abroad Can Renew Passports Online Easily

Nigerians residing outside the country can now renew their passports without the need to physically visit an embassy for biometric enrolment, thanks to the Nigerian Immigration Service's new contactless passport application system. This initiative aims to alleviate the stress, travel costs, and time associated with passport renewal for eligible Nigerians.

The process begins online at the official Nigerian Immigration Service passport portal, where applicants select “Apply from Outside Nigeria” and choose “Apply for Renewal or Reissue.” They must create an account or log in, verify their identity using their National Identification Number (NIN) and date of birth, and upload required documents after selecting their preferred processing embassy. Following payment of the passport fee, applicants receive an application ID and reference number.

They can opt for a physical or contactless appointment, with eligible applicants directed to download the NRS mobile app for biometric enrolment. After successful biometric submission and payment of the contactless service fee, applicants can track their applications approximately two weeks post-submission.
