Nigerian Recruits Deceived Into Fighting in Ukraine War Die on Battlefield in Russia

Nigerian recruits, including Adam Ana, Akinlawon Tunde, Quyuum Abugu, Stanley Onyeka Balogun, and Ridwan Adisa, were promised security jobs in Russia but were instead conscripted into the Russian army to fight in the Ukraine war. Some recruits, like Abubakar Adamu, managed to survive and appealed to the Nigerian government for repatriation.

Investigations revealed discrepancies in the recruitment dates, with reports of deaths not being communicated to families. The Nigerian Embassy in Russia allegedly collaborated with agents who facilitated the recruitment process, bypassing standard visa procedures.

The recruits were reportedly coerced into signing military contracts in Russian without translation, leading to their deployment in combat zones. The victims' families have sought intervention from Nigerian authorities, citing violations of international law and demanding the return of survivors to Nigeria.
