Plateau State Violence Claims Over 50 Lives After Tinubu Visit

Following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's visit to Plateau State on April 3, 2023, where he promised to restore peace and address insecurity, over 50 people were reported killed in various attacks across the region. Between April 3 and May 10, at least 14 separate incidents resulted in significant casualties in local government areas including Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Bassa, and Mangu.

Despite Tinubu's expression of sympathy for the victims and his acknowledgment that no compensation could replace lost lives, violence continued unabated. Reports indicated that three individuals were shot dead in Jos South on April 6, and subsequent attacks led to further fatalities, including the killing of a pastor's wife and two children on April 26.

The situation escalated with coordinated attacks on May 10, resulting in at least seven deaths, including a police officer. The Federal Government's commitment to increasing security forces has not alleviated the ongoing violence, prompting renewed concerns about the safety of residents in Plateau State.
