Peter Obi and Akpata Escape Attack at Edo ADC Event

Olumide Akpata, a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), disclosed that he and former presidential candidate Peter Obi narrowly escaped an attack during a political event in Benin City, Edo State. On Tuesday, they received intelligence warning of a potential attack at the ADC gathering scheduled for 11 AM on Wednesday.

Akpata noted that security personnel's efforts helped avert what could have been a "dastardly event." Despite the precautions, gunshots were fired near Chief John Odigie Oyegun's residence, where the event was held. Akpata recounted that he and Obi were pushed back into Oyegun's sitting room for safety as gunfire erupted.

Fortunately, no lives were lost, and there were no serious injuries reported, although some attendees experienced minor injuries, and property damage occurred. After the incident, Obi proceeded to the airport for a scheduled flight.

Akpata confirmed that they were thankful for the timely intervention of security forces.
