Police Stray Bullet Kills Two Motorcyclists in Lagos

On Friday, during a stop-and-search operation along the Old Ota Road in Lagos, two motorcyclists were killed by a stray bullet fired by police officers. Eyewitnesses stated that the shooting occurred around 5 PM when officers attempted to flag down a vehicle that allegedly refused to stop.

In response, the officers reportedly fired shots directly at the fleeing vehicle, which struck the two motorcyclists who were watching from a distance. The situation escalated, prompting military personnel and local monarchs to intervene to prevent further unrest.

Residents expressed anxiety over potential reprisals against the police concerning the victims, who were identified as civil servants. Abimbola Adebisi, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the involvement of the officers and stated that they have been arrested.

Commissioner of Police Moshood Jimoh ordered a thorough investigation into the incident, assuring the public that justice would be served and that the outcomes of the investigation would be made public.
