Four Bandits Arrested Near Akure Airport After Alert

On a Sunday afternoon, security operatives arrested four suspected bandits near Akure Airport following a distress call from a farmer who noticed suspicious individuals approaching her farmland. The air traffic control tower observed unusual activity and quickly alerted airport security personnel, including the aviation security unit and troops from the Nigerian Air Force and Army.

A search operation was launched in the surrounding forest area, leading to the apprehension of the suspects, who were believed to be connected to the earlier chase of the farmer. The suspects were subsequently handed over to the police for further interrogation.

Olubunmi Kuku, the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), emphasized the importance of collaboration among security agencies, including local groups like Amotekun, in ensuring airport safety. The incident underscores the federal government's commitment to strengthening airport security infrastructure nationwide, with ongoing construction of perimeter fencing at airports to prevent unauthorized access.
