Police Clarify Arrests Near Akur Airport, No Breach

The Ondo State Police Command issued a statement clarifying that the two individuals arrested near Akur Airport were not bandits, as previously reported, but rather suppliers linked to kidnapping operations in the area. The police spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, emphasized that there was no security breach at the airport, contradicting earlier claims made by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

The confusion arose from a tip-off regarding suspected kidnapping activities around Eleyewo, several kilometers from the airport. The police acted swiftly, leading to the arrest of the two suspects who provided logistical support for kidnappers.

The police urged the public to disregard misleading reports about bandits being arrested at the airport, describing such claims as false and capable of causing unnecessary panic. They reassured residents of the security around critical infrastructure, including the airport, and emphasized ongoing efforts to strengthen security measures nationwide.
