Police Prevent Bomb Attack in Akure, Arrest Six Suspects

On April 15, 2026, the Ondo State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner Adebowal Lawal, successfully foiled a planned bomb attack in Akure, arresting six suspects: Adekunl Prosper (56), Ojo Olumid (39), Tope Kolawol (40), Ahm Salihu (40), Bolaji Adebowal (46), and Gbadebo Abidemi (43). The police recovered materials used for constructing an improvised explosive device, including 217 bottles of sugar, 17 mobile phones, two HP laptops, and various incriminating items.

The operation was prompted by credible intelligence regarding the suspects' activities, which indicated a premeditated and coordinated plan to target government infrastructure. Additionally, the police discovered that the suspects had rented an apartment in the Ok Odu area of Akure as a base for their operations.

Lawal condemned the suspects' actions and urged landlords to conduct thorough background checks on prospective tenants to prevent criminal activities. The police also arrested ten cultists in a separate operation on the same day.
