Nigeria Integrity Watch Evaluates 10th Senate's Achievements

Nigeria Integrity Watch (NIW), a civil society group, released an assessment of the 10th Senate's legislative record, calling it significant. The statement, signed by Dr John Samuel Nangi on September 19, noted that the Senate, inaugurated in June 2023, processed hundreds of bills and passed 106 by April 23, 2026.

Key legislation included an amended Electoral Act signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in February 2026, aimed at improving election management. The NIW also highlighted the 2024 budget's restoration of the January-to-December fiscal cycle and tax reform legislation from 2025 designed to enhance revenue generation.

Other legislative efforts included the Student Loan Act and initiatives on electricity supply and digital infrastructure. While NIW praised the Senate's achievements, it cautioned that the true impact would depend on proper funding and implementation of the laws.

The assessment aims to provide a factual basis for evaluating the Senate's role as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections.
