Winni Miller Fights for Education in Odiokwu Community

Miss Winni Miller, a 26-year-old advocate from Odiokwu Community in Ahoada West, Rivers State, has been fighting for better educational facilities despite facing intimidation and assault from local politicians, particularly Mr. Eugen Epel, the council chairman.

On March 1, 2026, after highlighting the dilapidated conditions of the local secondary school, Winni was allegedly assaulted by Epel, leaving her with facial injuries. This incident drew attention to the neglect of educational facilities in rural communities, prompting Winni to seek support from civil society organizations, including Relief International and the Africa Social Development Integration Center.

Following the assault, Winni reported the incident to the police and sought medical attention. Despite Epel's denial of the assault, Winni's advocacy has garnered widespread attention, calling for justice and improvements in school conditions.

The community hopes for renovations, while Winni continues to face threats for her activism.
