Xi Jinping Champions Chinese Porcelain Heritage at UNESCO

On Saturday, October 2023, the Jingdezhen Handicraft Porcelain Industry Sites were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, recognizing a living tradition of Chinese porcelain that has thrived for over 2000 years. This achievement reflects Chinese President Xi Jinping's long-standing commitment to cultural heritage preservation.

During his visit to Jingdezhen, known as the “Porcelain Capital,” Xi toured significant sites including the Nanlu Ruins and the Ceramic Museum, where he learned about the city's porcelain-making legacy. He met with Sun Lixin, a fourth-generation craftsman, and discussed the dedication required to maintain such traditions.

Xi's advocacy for cultural heritage dates back to his work in Zhejiang province in the early 2000s, where he promoted the protection of ceramic heritage, including the establishment of a museum for Longquan celadon. His efforts have led to multiple Chinese cultural sites being recognized by UNESCO, showcasing his focus on preserving and promoting traditional Chinese culture.
