HYPREP Graduates 100 Trainees in Seafaring to Boost Nigeria's Blue Economy

The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) has successfully graduated 100 trainees in seafaring in Rivers State, Nigeria, as part of efforts to restore livelihoods and promote sustainable development in Ogoniland. The initiative, recommended by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), aligns with the project's goal of environmental sustainability and sustainable development in Ogoniland.

During the graduation ceremony at Charkin Maritime Academy in Port Harcourt, HYPREP's Project Coordinator, Prof. Nenibarini Zabbey, emphasized the importance of the training in advancing Nigeria's blue economy objectives.

The project aims to equip the youth with globally relevant seafaring skills to deter oil theft and other environmentally harmful practices. Mr.

Ehiozi Igbinomwanhia, representing the company involved, reiterated the commitment to environmental recovery and human capacity development in the Niger Delta region. Beneficiaries, like Alex Nwafor, expressed gratitude for the opportunity and highlighted the positive impact of the training on their future prospects.
