HYPREP Enhances Potable Water Access in Ogoniland

The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) is actively promoting access to potable water across Ogoniland, coinciding with the United Nations' World Water Day. Project Coordinator Nenibarini Zabbei announced that efforts will no longer be limited to oil-impacted areas, as HYPREP aims to ensure every Ogoni community has access to safe drinking water.

This initiative aligns with the 2023 World Water Day theme, "Water and Gender," which emphasizes equal access to water resources. Currently, 43 Ogoni communities are connected to potable water, with plans to serve an additional 17 communities during the rollout of Phase 3 of the project.

The Khana Local Government Area is also seeing advancements with a windmill-powered water scheme. HYPREP is committed to meeting Sustainable Development Goal 6, which targets universal access to clean water and sanitation by 2030.

The project emphasizes community-driven sustainability and partnerships with the River State Ministry of Water Resources and Rural Development.
