Hamzat Claims Role in Makinde's Governorship Success

Oriyomi Hamzat, a prominent broadcaster and the Accord Party governorship candidate in Oyo State, stated that he was instrumental in bringing Seyi Makinde into the political race that led to Makinde becoming governor. Speaking to Accord Party members in Ibadan, Hamzat expressed frustration over not receiving credit for the achievements of Makinde's administration during his eight-year tenure.

He emphasized that his support for Makinde was based on the belief that he would serve the people of Oyo State. Hamzat criticized the current political climate, where he feels he is only recognized for negative aspects, despite his contributions.

The relationship between Hamzat and Makinde has soured as they diverge politically ahead of the 2027 general elections. Makinde, currently serving his second term, has shifted to the Allied Peoples Movement to pursue a presidential bid and has endorsed Bimbo Adekanmbi as his preferred successor for the governorship.
