Hamzat Reveals Support for Makinde Amid Political Rift

Oriyomi Hamzat, the Accord Party governorship candidate in Oyo, disclosed his previous support for Governor Seyi Makinde's governorship ambition, stating he was among those who encouraged and backed Makinde during his political campaign. Hamzat expressed that his support stemmed from a belief that Makinde would work for the people of Oyo and clarified that his relationship with the governor was not based on contracts or personal benefits.

He made these remarks while addressing Accord Party members in Ibadan on a Saturday, amid increasing political differences between him and Makinde as the 2027 general election approaches. Hamzat claimed he deserved recognition for the achievements of the Makinde administration, asserting, “I was one of those that brought him and supported him as governor.” He dismissed claims that he sought government contracts, stating his only interest was to ensure the government fulfilled its promises to the populace.

Hamzat formally declared his intention to run for governor in January and has since obtained the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms.
