Zamfara Commissioner Resigns After Governor's APC Defection

Mallam Wadatau Madawaki, the Zamfara Commissioner for Education, announced his resignation shortly after Governor Dauda Lawal defected from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a telephone conversation, Madawaki confirmed that his resignation was a voluntary decision and not influenced by any pressure from the governor or other officials.

He stated that he remains committed to his long-standing affiliation with the PDP, highlighting the growing tensions among party loyalists due to the governor's sudden political shift. The resignation comes amidst ongoing internal crises and unresolved legal disputes within the PDP.

Following Madawaki's resignation, the Zamfara state government quickly moved to avoid a leadership vacuum, with Malam Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada announcing that Abdulmalik Abubakar Gajam would act as the Commissioner for Education effective immediately. This political maneuvering reflects the instability within the state's leadership as several loyalists of the governor have also defected to the APC.
