Tinubu Denies Coercion in Opposition Defections

On Wednesday night, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President of Nigeria, addressed allegations regarding the coercion of opposition members to abandon their political platforms in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking during an interfaith breakfast at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu asserted that he did not use coercion or force against anyone to weaken the opposition.

He emphasized that individuals who defected to the APC did so voluntarily. Furthermore, Tinubu highlighted the urgent need for constitutional reforms to tackle Nigeria's security challenges, particularly concerning terrorism and banditry.

He called for the establishment of state police as part of a broader effort to strengthen the security architecture across the country. Tinubu urged lawmakers to prioritize these reforms to stabilize the nation and reinforce constitutional democracy, stressing the importance of unity among Nigerians in facing these challenges.
