Amaechi Disagrees with Atiku on ADC Candidate Selection

Rotimi Amaechi, who previously served as the Minister of Transport and is a former Governor of Rivers State, publicly countered Atiku Abubakar's assertion regarding the selection process for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate for the 2027 elections. In an interview on Channel Television, Amaechi expressed his disagreement with the idea of a consensus choice, emphasizing that the ADC should allow its members to choose their candidate through primary elections.

He acknowledged the importance of supporting whoever emerges as the ADC presidential candidate but maintained that the party's internal processes should be democratic. This statement comes in response to Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President, who suggested that the ADC should prioritize consensus in selecting its flagbearer, particularly in light of the political dynamics between the North and South of Nigeria.
