Maiduguri Explosions Leave 23 Dead, 146 Injured

On a recent day in Maiduguri, a series of explosions occurred as traders were closing their shops for the day, leading to a chaotic scene. A victim named Mustapha recounted hearing a loud sound followed by bleeding from his neck due to the blast's impact.

He and others rushed to safety as confusion reigned. Medical personnel confirmed that 23 people died, with 146 others injured, including shrapnel wounds and burns.

Surajo Abdullahi, the zonal coordinator for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), reported that 169 victims were evacuated to three hospitals: University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Umaru Shehu Hospital, and Maiduguri Specialist Hospital. As the community grapples with the aftermath, residents have expressed concerns over security, calling for increased vigilance in public spaces, particularly in densely populated areas like markets.
