Maiduguri Bomb Blasts: 23 Dead, 108 Injured in Attacks

On Monday evening, multiple explosions in Maiduguri, Borno State, led to the tragic deaths of 23 individuals and injuries to 108 others. The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) confirmed that the blasts occurred around 7:24 PM, targeting crowded locations such as the Monday Market and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the attacks were carried out by suspected suicide bombers using improvised explosive devices. The incidents raised concerns about the evolving tactics of insurgent groups operating in the northeast, aiming to cause mass casualties and disrupt socio-economic activities.

A joint team comprising police tactical units and military personnel was deployed to secure the affected areas and conduct sweeps for additional explosives. Nazir Abdulmajid, the Commissioner of Police for Borno State, led a high-level assessment visit to the sites, assuring residents of the police command's commitment to protecting lives and property.

Emergency response teams, including NEMA and BSEMA, are actively involved in evacuating victims and restoring normalcy in Maiduguri.
